Hello all! Despite my title, I am not actually reviewing this book. I'm just letting you know about it. I first heard about this book by watching a John Piper dvd where he talked about Tyndale. (I was also able to hear the message live at the Na conference this year) Anyway, as a result of those messages, I decided I wanted to read the biography myself.
So, I ordered the book from the library, and despite the 384 pages, I was convinced I could read it. (those pages don't include the notes and additional information in the back) Ahem, however, after having it for almost 3 months, I have barely gotten to chapter 2 of the book! So...now you may be wondering why, I didn't finish it. :-)
The reason is--it's boring.
Yep, I just cannot get into the book. It's written by a Professor, and quite frankly, his writing style is hard for me to get into...and understand! :-)
A little more information on the book is:
Title: William Tyndale
Author: David Daniell
Published: 1994 Yale University Press (I think this is probably a clue that the book is a hard read)
Background Information:
According to the flap of the book, the author is: "His Ph.D., in Shakespeare is from London. He is Professor Emeritus in the University of London, having directed Shakespeare studies at University College London for many years." It goes on some more about his interest in Tyndale and that he is the the chairman of the newly formed William Tyndale Society.
So, if you are every very brave, bored, or stranded on an island with nothing else to read...you can attempt to read this book! I'm sure it's good, but I'd recommend you just listen/watch John Piper talk about Tyndale--it will be much more interesting!
Maybe one of these days I will try again to read it, in the meantime, I will be content with what I know already. :-)
